It may not be the norm among Lemmy users, but general public absolutely do use cloud storage for especially pictures.

ExcessShiv@lemmy.dbzer0.comto Technology@lemmy.world•UK government suggests deleting files to save waterEnglish30·2 days agoA small data center has been estimated to use upwards of 25 million liters of water per year if it relies on old-school cooling methods that allow water to evaporate.
So pass a law banning evaporative cooling systems from all industrial and commercial applications (or single out data centers), give them 6 months to comply and start handing out fines every day past the deadline.
Just be prepared to integrate with 40 year old equipment and add new features in to a PLC that should have been decommissioned a decade ago and the program is a mangled Frankenstein piece of shit made by 50 different people, many with no real understanding of programming or how to structure things…oh, and various “temporary” hacks upon hacks to keep production running with minimal downtime.
